Description
Up for auction is a HUGE, vintage bottle of Ecusson Eau de Cologne by Jean D’Albret. I would imagine that it is full of the original perfume or colored alcohol, but due to the age, if it is cologne, it has probably gone bad.
So, basically, I am selling this for the bottle.
This fragrance was the first perfume introduced by French Count Guillaume d’Ornano after World War II. This is a Chyphre fragrance that was introduced in 1947 in France and came to the United States in 1951. Eccusson means “Coat of Arms” in French, and this fragrance reportedly can trace its roots to the French era of the 1570’s, where it was first introduced into the court of Jeanne d’Albret, mother of King Henry IV, and the formula was carefully protected.
This fragrance was introduced in 1948 and was a Chypre for women. This bottle could have been a display or a Factice in a drugstore or department store. Unlike recent times, factices during that time period had the actual fragrance in them. But since I cannot get stopper off, I cannot know if that is the case for this bottle.
Bottle is a tall clear glass squarish bottle with a frosted glass stopper that has half spherical ball shaped items going around the top side portion of the stopper (The stopper could have been meant to represent a crown)
Around the top of the bottle, around the neck, there are stretch marks probably from making the bottle, I do not think it is anything to be concerned about
The stopper is frozen, that is it is stuck, and I have never been able to get the stopper off
The large gold and white rectangular label is in very readable condition, but the lower right hand corner is either pressed up or a small portion is missing.
The underside of the bottle is embossed:
Jean d’Albret
Bottle Made in France
15 Fl oz
The neck of the bottle still has all the old cording intact, although the cording is a little on the dark side.
There is no onion skin on the top of this bottle. I have no idea if it was ever opened, but the liquid has had very little evaporation, so it has been sealed pretty good.
Height of this bottle is: 7 ½ inches
This bottle weighs 1 pound 7 oz before even being placed in a box. It will be shipped ground and double boxed.
Shipping is .00 to winning domestic bidder. If you live in Texas, will need to pay state sales tax. Email me any questions. If you like what you see here, please take the time to check out the other items I have up for auction. Thanks!
